LDSC Hands Over Medical Supplies to Noveleta Municipality

As the country continues to grapple against COVID-19, Latter-day Saints Charities (LDSC), the humanitarian arm of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, are not wavering in their participation of the global relief efforts. Such efforts extended to local government units in different parts in the Philippines, including the Municipality of Noveleta in Cavite.

In a small-scale handover ceremony, which took place on 21 September, Hon. Dino Reyes-Chua, Municipal Mayor; Dr. Maria Hilda Buco, Municipal Health Doctor; and Jojo C. Caringal, Municipal Nurse, gratefully accepted the medical supplies.

“The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is always helping the Noveleta Municipality in times of crisis. Its chapel doors are always open to the residents most especially during floods and other calamities. These medical supplies are greatly appreciated. As of now, the COVID cases in our province is quite alarming,” says Mayor Chua.

Also present in the event were Noel M. Montemayor, Bishop of Noveleta Ward (congregation) and Edith C. Bausing, Communication Representative of the Cavite Philippine Stake (diocese).

“We never turn down any opportunity to assist the community,” Bishop Montemayor said. “Whenever our local government units ask for help to use our chapel as a venue for large gatherings like meetings, conferences, and medical missions, we willingly accommodate their requests,” he said.

The local government unit of Noveleta, Cavite received 400 pieces of PPEs, 192 bottles of 70% isopropyl alcohol, 1,000 pairs of surgical gloves, 1,000 pieces of face masks, and 400 pieces of face shields. These items will assist the municipality in their fight to curb the spread of the disease, which the mayor said is increasing at an alarming rate.

According to the Noveleta Municipal mayor, the donated items will be distributed to health workers and frontliners who are at high risk of COVID-19 exposure on a daily basis. When they are equipped with the right protective gear, medical frontliners will be able to serve the communities.
